Last night
We brought out our old photo albums
And spent time flicking through
The sepia toned smiles of our bloodline
This is how we grieve.
Grandma’s middle name was the same as mom’s
It was Virginia
And there,
That’s mom before she got sick
She was beautiful
Now this is all we have left of them.
We pack our grief in boxes
Careful not to bend the edges
Or smudge the ink
Putting the boxes away in closets
For another rainy day
When the details seem fuzzy
And we would give anything
For one more memory
A beautiful piece, and a true representation of what it’s like dealing with the aftermath of a death. I’m so sorry for your loss.

When I read this, I couldn’t help but wonder how much knowledge and experience your grandmother would have had. Almost a century of tales to tell. š„ Such a tragic loss to your family and society.
