Winter girl

People always love
Summer Spring and Fall
But what about the Winter girl
Who is the absence of it all
What is she but silence
And frozen over ponds
Known mostly for her darkness
And the heartbreak in her song
Whenever she arrives
Her presence quickly welcomed
Until they realize what they’ve lost
Begging once again for sun
They make her feel unworthy
Teach her how to hate
What’s as natural to her as breath
Still she gives all they can take
This broken fragile girl
With ice around her bones
Would gladly melt away
If it meant that they’d come home
Then she’s gone without a trace
And they never think of looking back
After all, she’s only winter
And they never wanted that
